Integration of Mode S into IFF Interrogator System

TSC is taking part in a Navy effort to upgrade AN/UPX-29(V), presently capable of only secure Mode 4 and classic ATCRBS modes, to include secure Mode 5 and Mode S operation. This effort has included:

  • Analyzing top-level benefits and requirements for the proposed Mode S upgrade.
  • Reviewing changes required for system interfaces.
  • Aiding in the development of system implementation concepts.
  • Analyzing requirements for the new Mode S tracking and scheduling functions required.
  • Interfacing with NAWCAD, the Aegis community, Mode S vendors, and several FAA organizations such as the William J. Hughes Technical Center to identify and quantify the shipboard Mode S performance and interface requirements.
  • Developing the Addressed Surveillance interrogation scheduling concept
  • Detailing tracker GIC-B message handling functions
  • Generating SRSs and pseudo code in support of this effort.
  • Participating as part of the software test team for the current COTS equipment.
