TSC provides systems engineering support to the SF-21 Program Office (AND-510), which is currently developing its architecture for the various National Airspace System (NAS) environments and performing initial testing of its primary systems, including the Ground Broadcast Services (GBS) System and its interfaces to Airport Surface Detection Equipment Version X (ASDE-X). TSC contributions to this effort include:

  • Development of the GBS System Specification Document as an ASDE-X system enhancement for the Large and Medium Airports in the NAS. The GBS will improve airport surveillance in the surface and terminal areas by providing enhanced traffic and weather/non-weather data to improved cockpit displays.
  • Revision of the GBS System Specification Document as system requirements evolve due to changes in the RTCA standards, ASDE-X system enhancements, and test results.
  • Participation in SF-21 program working groups to develop both the dynamic program focus and new versions of community standards. These groups include the SF-21 Architecture Working Group, TIS-B Minimum Aviation System Performance Standards (MASPS), and the Flight Information Service-Broadcast (FIS-B) MASPS.
  • Recommendation of the optimum use of the ASDE-X in the GBS based on acknowledged expertise in Traffic Information Service-Broadcast (TIS-B), Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B), and FIS-B.
