TSC is developing automatic terrain characterization and feature identification algorithms that process FOPEN SAR imagery. FOPEN SAR is able to penetrate the foliage canopy to detect hidden targets and facilities. TSC’s advanced algorithms can extract information on roads, ground slope and tree size/density to assess vehicle mobility and thereby reduce the target search area. The algorithms are based on our extensive past work in automatic terrain classification using remote sensing imagery. TSC is also developing novel techniques to detect moving targets beneath the canopy using FOPEN SAR imagery.
